How are you spending your summer? We invite all 5th - 8th grade Charter School students to be a part of the 13th Annual Michigan Charter Schools Fine Arts Camp.

Spend four high-energy, rewarding days with 300 charter public school students immersing themselves in the excitement of the arts. Experience the world of music, drama, dance, visual arts and public speaking. There are nightly concerts presented by renowned performance groups and involving selected campers performing as well. The last evening of the camp features a “Grand Finale” presentation with all campers performing (including a 100 piece orchestra, 150 member choir, dynamic dance and drama teams and a spectacular visual arts display).

This camp is perfect for students who’ve never acted, never shown their drawings to anyone outside the family, nor heard first-hand the soft music of a flute. It’s also perfect for more experienced students honing their styles and technique, hungering for more instruction and realizing their own talents.

Every camper will participate in 3 arts areas of classes during the week of the 4 day overnight camp. For example, a camper may take beginning band (requires one year of band/strings experience and provide their own instrument), beginning dance and advanced visual arts classes each day. All beginning classes do not require previous experience (with the exception of band/strings) and the advanced classes require at least 1 year of classroom experience. Classes fill up quickly during online registration and are based on a first come first serve basis. There are a limited number of scholarships available for those students whose schools’ university authorizers are sponsors of the camp. They and based on a first come first serve basis as well. For schools sponsored by an authorized university, they can register at the rate of $35 per camper. Students from charter schools NOT authorized by the listed sponsors and for all others when scholarships have been utilized, you can register for the regular rate of $289 per camper. This fee includes all meals, lodging, and all instructional materials. There are no additional costs for campers attending in the camp. Some campers bring extra spending money for snacks etc. in the late evening. Vocal Music
Choir-Students of all experience levels learn the fundamentals of vocal music and a variety of songs. More advanced students have the potential to perform solos

Vocal Techniques
Students study musical styles, ways of using their voices, vocal exercises and the basics of musical arrangements

Drama
Beginning Drama-Students launch into the dynamics of acting, stage presence, personality, vocal projection and set design

Masters Drama
Students with previous experience will be coached in more advanced theatrical roles, honing their skills and stage presence

Dance
Beginning Dance-Students are introduced to the energy, beauty and form of ballet and jazz

Masters Dance
Students participate in higher level ballet and jazz routines, stretching their individual skills and performing as a group

Visual Arts
Beginning Art-Students are introduced to the wonders of art, including watercolors, clay and pencil drawing

Masters Art
Students with previous art experience are immersed in advanced projects involving paint, clay and pencil drawings

Instrumental Music
Beginning Band-Students build on their awareness of the fundamentals

Instrument Ensemble-String
Students practice and perform together, advancing their understanding of how all the instruments work together

Masters Band Ensemble
Students with two or more years of experience tackle more complex pieces

Public Speaking
Speech-Students are introduced to the nationally renowned Dale Carnegie Method of public speaking, learning to communicate a clear message and have a strong, credible presence
