There are a limited number of academy slots available for the 2009-2010 school year.
Dr. Carl Byerly has over 25 years of educational experience in both the public and private setting as a music teacher and administrator. Since 1998 he has worked exclusively with the charter school movement. Dr. Byerly has also served as a Director of Education over five charter schools in southeast Michigan for an educational service provider. He has worked extensively with schools administration and faculty members in the organization and maintaining of successful arts integration programs and arts community partnerships. As a recognized statewide leader in arts education since 1999, Dr. Byerly has been a guest speaker on arts education and director of statewide arts activities including the annual Michigan Association of Public School Academies state convention with over 3000 educators in attendance. From 1998 to 2006 Dr. Byerly served as Administrator at Woodland Park Academy of Grand Blanc, MI and was selected out of four charter schools in the state of Michigan as a recipient of a two year arts integration dissemination grant. Dr. Byerly is the founder and director of the annual Michigan Charter School Fine Arts Camp since 1999. The Camp offers 125 classes in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, drama, dance, visual arts and speech. It is hosted on numerous university campuses during the summer season with over 300 students in attendance. He is also the founder and director of the Michigan Charter School Solo and Ensemble Competition and the 100 voice All State Charter School Choir. |

From 1994 to 2004 Dr. Byerly served as a music professor at the University of Michigan-Flint. He was the director of the national recording artist performance group the University Since 1976 Dr. Byerly’s performance groups have won numerous awards and scholarships at both local and national levels. His wide variety of performances have included a Dr. Byerly holds music and music education degrees from the University of Texas, Jackson College of Ministries, Clayton University and Mississippi College. He also has Dr. Byerly served as a board member of the Grand Blanc Arts Council and the Bingham Arts Academy in Alpena, MI. He has also served as chair of the music division of
